The Story of 'Buzz' the Buzzard

Gauntlet recently played a part in recooperating, careing for, and finally releasing a baby common buzzard (Buteo buteo) which we had been asked to go and collect from a local kennels.
This is not something that Gauntlet normally assists with, however when recovered, it was clear to see that the little bird had been pecked at by other birds whilst out of the nest. No signs of parent birds or nest could be found so we brought it back to the centre to give it some TLC.
After a quick check over from AVS it was given the all clear and placed in an incubator and hand fed to build its strength up.
The buzzard, now referred to as ‘buzz’, needed round the clock feeding and was often taken home by staff members for extra care and attention.
Whilst he was being cared for plans were made by AVS and local contact Mike Price to locate a foster nest for the bird, so he could be reintroduced back to the wild.
A successful nest was found and the day for buzz to leave the centre and join the big wide world finally came, now at 4 weeks old he had grown since his first day and had become quite a character.
Buzz has now been accepted by his foster parents and new sibling in a nest in Derbyshire and is living the life a wild buzzard should
